West Flanders

The focus in Belgium is on three towns and municipalities in the Westhoek area in the western part of West Flanders. It is semi-rural, coastal, with poor accessibility between towns, rural areas and coastal resorts, although the coast itself is served by the 68km coast tram (Kusttram) and by a parallel branch of SNCB, the Belgian national railway, to de Panne near the French border where it connects with the tram.

Tourism is important for the region, and would be a beneficiary of enhanced transport links.
