West Flanders

Two regions in West Flanders have been involved in Sintropher - the Westhoek region in the west and the Bruges-Zeebrugge corridor in the east (see separate tab).

The Westhoek region of West Flanders is semi-rural and coastal, with poor connectivity between the towns, rural areas and coastal resorts. The coast is served by the 68 km coast tram (Kusttram) and by a parallel branch of SNCB, the Belgian national railway, to De Panne near the French border where it connects with the tram. Tourism is important for the region, and it would benefit from enhanced transport links.
